Platelet Rich Plasma Treatment

Platelet rich plasma (PRP) treatment has become an extremely useful modality for the treatment of hair loss. Because of its effectiveness, it can sometimes be used as first choice and it is also used in conjunction with hair transplantation.

The treatment consists of taking a blood sample (10cc), this sample is then centrifuged to separate the red blood cells and white blood cells from the plasma, which contains the platelets which themselves contain the growth factors, the active agent. This plasma is then injected with a microneedle into the scalp, at the places affected by hair loss. The treatment lasts about 30 minutes, it is not very painful and does not require any down time.

The main effect of the treatment is to improve the volume of the hair by bringing the miniaturized hair back to the growth phase to reach their full diameter (telogen phase to anagen phase). This will result in thicker looking hair and possibly, if the treatment is repeated, stabilization of the hair loss. However, this treatment will not grow new hair in a bald area. PRP treatments are also used with hair transplantation to optimize the results.

PRP treatment has also been proven to activate regenerative mechanisms in the skin. The treatment is effective in reducing fine lines and wrinkles on the face and restoring radiance to your skin. In general, 3 to 4 sessions of 30 minutes will be necessary to obtain the expected result. There is no recovery period necessary, at most, a slight redness of the skin for the first 24 hours which will be easily camouflaged with a foundation.
