HYALURONIC ACID FILLERS

WHAT ARE HYALURONIC ACID FILLERS?

Widespread, this therapeutic treatment involves injecting hyaluronic acid under the skin or into the skin to fill a volume loss or a wrinkle.

Hyaluronic acid treatments are a quick and simple filler technique that gives an immediate result.

Most filling products used in treatments (hyaluronic acid, eg: Restylane, Fortelis, Teosyal, etc.) last about 12 months. Permanent filling products (Artecol, etc.) are no longer used because of possible long-term complications (granulomas, hypertrophic scars).

FOR WHICH CONDITION ARE HYALURONIC ACID FILLERS HELPFUL?

Initially, filling injections were mainly used for wrinkles around the mouth (nasolabial folds, marionette lines). They are now used for several other purposes, including filler injections for:

  • cheeks
  • temples
  • redifining the jaw line
  • reducing dark circles
  • raising eyebrows
  • compensating for volume loss in the forehead, nose, etc.

Certainly, one of the most common uses of filler injections is for the lips : to increase their volume or simply to restore lost volume for a natural result.

WHAT DOES HYALURONIC ACID FILLERS CONSIST OF?

The injection of hyaluronic acid filler is relatively short in duration, on lasting average about 15 to 30 minutes.

It is virtually painless. A topical anesthetic may also be used if needed.

Depending on the treated region, there may be swelling during the first 24 hours. Ecchymosis (bruising) is also possible. It will last about a week and can be concealed with makeup.

ARE THE RESULTS OF HYALURONIC ACID FILLERS PERMANENT?

Unlike most procedures, fillers provide immediate and often spectacular results.

The duration of the effects of the treatment is limited to the life of the injected product. Over time, it will be phased out by enzymes in the body. Most fillers used today last an average of a year.
